Eighth Sabbath

David sounds like himself again. He has conversations without thinking about it and every word is crystal clear. We took a walk around 5 West this afternoon. There was a recumbent exercise bike in the hallway, and David took a spin. He ate blueberry pancakes for breakfast and pita bread and hummus for dinner. Since he’s getting 2000 calories all night through his central port, he has absolutely no appetite, but he’s been ordered to eat. So today he had his first non-pureed food: blueberry pancakes, hummus, pita bread, and a bit of broccoli and green beans. For a few days he wasn’t able to coordinate his jaw and tongue enough to eat, but today that all worked too.

  1. What good news that David's speech is so improved, Mary. Any explanation other than the speech therapy? And that he is eating. Jim tell me that you both slept on a fold out bed Fri. and Sat. nights in David's room. What troupers! I'm sure David appreciates your being there. Love, Charlotte

  2. Thank you for the wonderful news. No obligation to take broth, either! It will all find a home, and is offered just the same. There is, in fact, a pot of chicken vegetable soup simmering away on my stovetop as Samuel has an upper respiratory something. I was thinking of you when I shopped today so I picked up one braunsweiger and one liverwurst and hope for help eating them as I cannot make it through one in time on my own. It almost sounds like the chemo paralyzed some nerves which are coming back [don't remember exactly which ones David had but cisplatin can do that and so can some others]. What lovely, terrific news.
